Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to bridal makeup services provided by The Makeup Lab. By paying a booking fee and confirming your booking, you agree to the terms below.

Any booking-specific details, including the booking fee, minimum bridal party requirement, timings, travel arrangements or other agreed variations, will be confirmed separately in writing. Where a booking-specific agreement differs from these Terms & Conditions, the details confirmed in writing for that booking will take priority.

Booking & Payment

  • A non-refundable and non-transferable booking fee is required to secure your wedding date.
  • The amount of the booking fee will be confirmed at the time of booking.
  • Your date is not reserved until the booking fee has been received and your booking has been confirmed by The Makeup Lab. Until this point, the date may continue to be offered to other clients.
  • The booking fee covers administration, reserves your wedding date and secures the makeup artist for the agreed bridal trial and wedding day services.
  • Payment for the bridal trial is due at the time of the trial.
  • The remaining balance for wedding day services must be paid in full no later than 14 days before the wedding date.
  • The Makeup Lab reserves the right to refuse to provide services where the full balance has not been received before the agreed service begins.
  • Payment instructions will be provided directly to the client once the booking has been agreed.

Bridal Party Numbers

  • The number of people receiving makeup will be agreed when the booking is confirmed.
  • Additional members of the bridal party may be added after booking, subject to availability and sufficient time within the wedding morning schedule.
  • If additional people are added, the schedule and final balance will be adjusted accordingly.
  • If the number of people requiring makeup is reduced, The Makeup Lab must be informed at least 14 days before the wedding date.
  • Where sufficient notice is provided, the outstanding balance will be adjusted accordingly, or any applicable overpayment will be refunded.
  • If the bridal party is reduced less than 14 days before the wedding, or on the wedding day itself, payments relating to those services will be non-refundable.

Minimum booking requirement

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the standard minimum booking is:

Bride + 2 additional people receiving makeup

This may include bridesmaids, Mother of the Bride, Mother of the Groom or another member of the bridal party.

Where a different minimum booking requirement has been agreed with the client, the minimum confirmed in writing will apply.

If the final number of services falls below the agreed minimum booking requirement, the booking will still be charged at the minimum booking value.

Bridal Trials

  • The Makeup Lab and the client will agree a suitable date and location for the bridal trial.
  • For Derby bookings, trials are held at the studio in DE1 1GA.
  • For London bookings, The Makeup Lab can travel to the client's agreed location within approximately 1.5 hours' travelling distance, subject to prior agreement.
  • A bridal trial may take up to approximately 2 hours, including consultation time. Clients should allow sufficient time in their schedule in case the appointment runs over.
  • Any additional trial requested after the initial bridal trial will be treated as a separate service and charged at the applicable bridal trial rate.

Allergies & Sensitivities

  • Clients must inform The Makeup Lab of any known allergies, sensitivities, skin conditions or reactions that may affect the makeup service.
  • Where possible, this information should be provided at least one month before the relevant makeup appointment so that ingredients can be reviewed and suitable alternatives can be considered.
  • Where a client has a severe allergy, sensitivity or medical concern, The Makeup Lab may determine that certain products or services cannot safely be provided.
  • The Makeup Lab reserves the right to refuse or modify a makeup service where there is a reasonable health or safety concern.

Health & Hygiene

For hygiene and safety reasons, The Makeup Lab will not apply makeup directly over contagious skin conditions, open wounds, infections or other conditions that may risk contamination of professional products or equipment.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • active cold sores
  • infectious eye conditions
  • open wounds
  • contagious skin infections
  • If a client or member of the bridal party develops a condition that may prevent the makeup service from being carried out safely, The Makeup Lab should be informed at least 48 hours before the appointment.
  • Where sufficient notice is provided, any applicable refund for the affected person's service will be discussed based on the circumstances.
  • If The Makeup Lab is only made aware of the condition at the appointment, the makeup artist reserves the right to refuse the service and the payment for that service will be non-refundable.
  • This policy exists to protect both clients and the hygiene of the professional makeup kit.

Cancellation by the Client

  • Booking fees are non-refundable and non-transferable once paid.
  • If the client chooses to cancel the wedding or makeup booking, the booking fee will not be refunded.
  • Any additional payments already made will be dealt with in accordance with the cancellation timing and services already provided.
  • Clients are strongly encouraged to consider suitable wedding or event insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances that may result in cancellation or changes to the wedding.

Cancellation by The Makeup Lab

  • In the unlikely event that The Makeup Lab is unable to provide the agreed wedding day services, all payments relating to services that have not already been provided will be refunded in full.
  • Payments relating to services already completed, such as a bridal trial, will not be refunded.
  • Where reasonably possible, The Makeup Lab will make every effort to recommend or arrange a trusted replacement makeup artist.
  • However, the availability of a replacement artist cannot be guaranteed.
  • The Makeup Lab will not be responsible for any additional compensation beyond the refund of payments for services that could not be provided.

Government Restrictions & COVID-19

  • If government-imposed restrictions legally prevent the wedding or makeup service from taking place on the agreed date, payments may be refunded in full where the service cannot reasonably be provided or rearranged.
  • This applies only where the event or service is prevented from taking place because of official government restrictions.
  • If the client chooses to cancel the wedding or booking where no such legal restriction prevents the services from being provided, the normal cancellation terms will apply.

Destination & International Weddings

The Makeup Lab is available for destination and international wedding bookings.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the client is responsible for reasonable travel-related expenses required for the artist to attend the destination, including:

  • return flights or other agreed transport
  • accommodation
  • airport transfers
  • transport required at the destination
  • All travel arrangements and costs will be discussed and agreed before the booking is confirmed.
  • Where the client is responsible for booking the artist's flights, the booking must include sufficient luggage allowance for The Makeup Lab to safely transport the professional makeup kit and all equipment required to provide the agreed services.
  • Any specific travel requirements will be confirmed with the client before bookings are made.

Changes to Wedding Details

Clients should inform The Makeup Lab as soon as possible of any significant changes to:

  • wedding date
  • venue
  • getting-ready location
  • ceremony time
  • bridal party size
  • required services
  • The Makeup Lab will make reasonable efforts to accommodate changes, but changes are subject to availability and may result in additional charges where extra time, travel or services are required.
  • A change to the wedding date is not automatically guaranteed and will depend on the artist's availability.

Timing on the Wedding Day

  • A wedding morning schedule may be prepared based on the information supplied by the client.
  • The client is responsible for ensuring that members of the bridal party are available at their allocated times.
  • Significant delays caused by members of the bridal party may affect the services that can reasonably be completed before the agreed finish time or ceremony.
  • Any substantial changes to timings should be communicated to The Makeup Lab as early as possible.

Photography & Social Media

  • The Makeup Lab may ask permission to photograph completed makeup looks for portfolio, website or social media purposes.
  • Images will only be used where appropriate consent has been obtained.
  • Where professional wedding photography is shared, photographer credits will be included where known and appropriate.

Agreement

Payment of the booking fee confirms that the client has read, understood and agreed to these Terms & Conditions, together with any booking-specific arrangements confirmed separately in writing.

Any agreed changes to these terms must be confirmed in writing by The Makeup Lab.
